Contribute to AMLS History

To mark its 40th anniversary in 2014, the AMLS has commissioned a history. This will join the recent MLSA and IBMS history publications on the bookshelves. Noel White and Anne MacLellan have agreed to take on this task and considerable work has already been undertaken, particularly by Noel.

Noel is a former Laboratory Manager, St James's Hospital and President of the AMLS.
Anne is a former Chief Medical Scientist in Microbiology in the Coombe Hospital. She was a journalist with the Irish Times and is currently Administrator at the Centre for the History of Medicine UCD. With such an experienced editorial team we can anticipate an interesting and professional publication.

While much information can be garnered from official publications, journals, minutes etc, there is a gold mine of stories, anecdotes, photos and memorabilia held by members.

We invite you to send such material to Tom Moloney at the AMLS office. It will be carefully stored, copied and returned to you, and if published, credited to you.

So please start digging in your basements for old files. You might even rise to a forage in your attics for any old material that might be published in an AMLS history.

Do prepare a risk assessment before exploring those attics and basements as we don't wish to have your accident appear as a footnote in the history.

Please also pass on this invitation to any retired members you have contact with.
