On September 22nd 2011, Roche Tissue Diagnostics formally launched their new organisation in Ireland with a one day meeting programme in the Radisson Hotel, Athlone, Co. Westmeath. Paul Weldon and Christian Paetzke opened the meeting with a welcome note and an introduction into how Roche Tissue Diagnostics came to be involved in the Ventana Histology Business in Ireland.

Scottish Association of Histotechnology 28th Scientific Meeting Report

The Scottish Association of Histotechnology is pursuing similar initiatives to the AMLS Cellular Pathology Advisory Body such as biobanking and molecular strategies and it was beneficial to see how our Scottish colleagues have approached these new developments.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) looks set to defy the key recommendation from a team of international blood experts just weeks ago, that screening blood donations for viruses should remain in place in both Dublin and Cork on safety grounds.

STEM CELL USER GROUP (SCUG) REPORT

Stem Cell User Group Meetings have been held at various centres throughout the UK over the last few years. More recently, staff from the Irish Stem Cell laboratories have joined this group and the 11th SCUG meeting was held in St Vincent’s University Hospital on 18th June 2010. There were 35 delegates from 10 centres in the UK and from 4 centres in Ireland. In addition, representatives from Asistec, Planer plc, Smart Cells, Quest Biomedical, Shield Medicare, Agma, Miltenyi Biotec, Fisher Bioservices and Cryoservice attended, some of them with trade stands.
