Eligibility for Membership
of the
Academy of Medical Laboratory Science
The Council of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science may admit, to membership of the Academy, persons who hold such qualifications for each grade of membership: Fellows, Full Members or Associate Members, as are herein set out or such other qualifications as the Council may deem to be sufficient in the case of any individual applicant
Associate Member
Any applicant for admission as an Associate Member of the Academy shall hold:
A Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science from Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin St., Cork Institute of Technology/ or Galway Mayo Institute of Technology , awarded prior to 1994.
Full Member
Any applicant for admission as a Full Member of the Academy shall hold:
A degree at honours level in the field of Medical Laboratory Science, which has an integrated and supervised placement in a hospital laboratory.
Honours degrees validated for full membership of the Academy are:

equivalent to above
OR
Possess the Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences of the Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin St. or Cork Institute of Technology , awarded prior to 1994, or equivalent.
OR
shall have passed the Final Examination of the Institute of Medical Laboratory Sciences
Fellow
Any applicant for admission as Fellow of the Academy shall hold:
A post graduate degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Sciences
and
shall have held Membership of the Academy for a period of not less than two years
and
shall have experience in the practise of Medical Laboratory Science acceptable to Council.
OR
Shall be a fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences by examination or thesis.
Student membership
Undergraduates of the following courses can apply for student membership free of charge:
B.Sc. (Hons) in Biomedical Science at Dublin Institute of Technology, Kevin St.
B.Sc. (Hons) in Biomedical Science at Cork Institute of Technology/University College Cork
B.Sc. (Hons) in Medical Science at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology
How Can I Join?

(a) Applicants who possess the qualifications outlined above should complete Form 1.
(b) Applicants who hold an Honours Degree in Biomedical Science from an awarding body outside the Republic of Ireland and who have completed at least one year’s supervised and certified clinical laboratory experience should complete Form 2.
