BioMedica 2012 - Letter from Marie Culliton President
On behalf of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science I would like to welcome you to BioMedica.
Changes to the way our health service is structured will continue. We must adapt our service to meet the demands of a changing health services framework – increasing efficiency, lowering costs without compromising quality and contributing to improving patient care.
As Medical Scientists, I believe we are best placed to lead the change required to modernise our service to ensure it remains fit for purpose. However, we need to be pro-active and look to exploiting the new technologies available, incorporating them into our quality systems in order to achieve our objectives.
Regulatory changes are also expected. The 1st registration board for allied health professionals was inaugurated in 2011 with a number of others scheduled for 2012. It is likely that the Medical Scientists board will become a reality in 2012. The CEO of CORU, Ms Ginny Hanarahan will address the challenges for us at the Plenary Session on Tuesday 24th April from 16.15 to 17.15 in the Landsdowne Room RDS.
Given this backdrop, the unique opportunities which can be gained from attending BioMedica make this year’s event more important and the content more relevant than ever.
This year, the Academy has worked hard to increase the depth and volume of information offered through the lecture programme to allow you to hear more of the latest idea, approaches and techniques whatever your area of specific interest. The BioMedica exhibition is your opportunity to source the latest technology, services and solutions that will be needed by us all to meet the challenges to our service in the coming years.
BioMedica has something for everyone. It is a time to network and interact with the medical scientists who play such an important role in the delivery of quality diagnostics services in health care and who are experts in their fields.
On behalf of the AMLS I would like to thank all those speakers, chairs, committees and exhibitors who have invested their time and effort into BioMedica 2012. I hope your visit is enjoyable, educational and productive.
I look forward to meeting you there.
