The Academy functions as the Designated Authority with the approval of the Minister of Health and Children, in evaluating the education and training necessary to practise medical laboratory science in Ireland.
Membership or eligibility for membership of the Academy of Medical Laboratory Science is a requirement to practise in the profession in Ireland .
The Academy is active in researching the policies, procedures and the associated technology necessary to ensure the highest quality service within pathology laboratories at a national and an international level.
